Newly diagnosed and looking to make neurodivergent friends

Hello! My name's Chloe, and I've recently been diagnosed with autism at the age of 32. I'm a high masking autistic female.

I've always felt different, but it's only over the last few years that I've learned more about autism in women, specifically high-masking women, and discovered that I was autistic myself.

I've always struggled to make and maintain friendships, due to working from home and not having the opportunity to meet people, but also due to feeling very different to neurotypicals and unable to relate to them. I don't have anyone else around me who is neurodivergent.

I'd really like to make like-minded friends and find a community.

I live in the North West of England with my husband and our cat and I work in marketing.

My interests include gaming, reading, writing, music, crafts, collecting handbags and astrology. I'm also currently learning to speak Mandarin Chinese!

I hope to hear from you soon! Slight smile

  • Dear chloem,

Welcome to the community and congratulations on your diagnosis! It is lovely to have you here and I hope you find some like-minded individuals to build relationships with

I thought I would share some resources that may be helpful to you:

    •  Firstly we have the Autism Services Directory -this is a very helpful way to find groups, social activities and support services in your local area. I thought their may be a possibility of finding a way to connect with neurodivergent people within your local area.
    • After diagnosis -this has some information about how you may feel after diagnosis and helps with identifying what support could be available to you
    • Masking -as you mentioned that you mask I thought this could be worth taking a look at.

I hope some of this helps and that you enjoy your time with our community.

    Take care,

    Olivia Mod
