I am mid way through watching this video on YouTube and have come to the realisation that I am literally her: https://youtu.be/eJfX3njMVww?si=l9lVAhYxQwCP18uu I don't believe she is neurodivergent, but she could be and if she was that would make even more sense. I wouldn't say I grew up in a horrible way (for the most part at least) but Amy grew up in a situation where she was very very lonely and never had any friends or had much fun. I too never had friends at school and even when I was little the friends I did have frequently ditched me which only became more apparent once I went into secondary school. I literally sat alone every day and spoke to nobody other than the occasional teacher between year 8 to year 11. I made a couple friends within that time, but they ended up leaving the school or just ditching me too. This went into sixthform/college and now I'm doing an online degree where obviously I am alone again. I am 23 now and can't even get into work because I have no way to communicate with others. I am still waiting for my diagnosis and have been for well over 1 year. Amy has Sheldon, Penny and Bernadette at least. Sheldon is likely on the spectrum and perhaps Howard is too. I find comfort in shows like this that I may also find people who a nice and friendly and I hope to fall in love one day. I basically also grew up as an only child (for the most part) so I never even had a basic sibling-built-in-best-friend type of relationship either. Anyway, I just wanted to share the video and my thoughts. I recommend watching the video I linked.
