Just Diagnosed

Hi there, I was diagnosed as autistic just over a week ago ( 2 days before a planned trip to Rome!) I am 57 years old and have had early onset Parkinson’s Disease for the last few years which is very well managed with medication.

I think it is just sinking in now although it's hard to tell as I'm unsure how I feel about it. It does answer a lot of questions from my younger years and I think I am grateful for the diagnosis.

I have been in recovery from alcohol and drugs for the past 17 years and this diagnosis seems to be filling in a lot of the holes that I could never successfully address in recovery.

Sorry for the disjointed ramble but very grateful to have access to this community.

Kind thoughts Heart️

  • Hello TcWacii.

Having received a diagnosis as of the last two years, I entirely empathise with you.  while receiving this can help to answer questions about our life, this can all take a while to sink in - I am happy that you have been given a sense of clarity.

If you have the time, I recommend checking out the following NAS resource relating to post diagnosis:

    After diagnosis

You are valued as a member of the NAS community, please feel welcome to voice your concerns and thoughts, you should not have to go this journey alone.

    Thanks.
