Has anyone had any experience with 8 year old autistic girl starting puberty and anxiety

In the past 6 months my 8 year old ha shown some physical signs of development. Now nearing her 9th birthday she has high anxiety, wakes up constantly in the night and dreads bead time because she says " she has too many things in her head"  I was wondering if anyone has any resources that will be helpful to show her or  how you managed the anxiety  and over thinking . any advice appreciated. Thank you :) xxxxxx

  • Dear Meliz,

Welcome to the online community, it sounds like you are doing an incredible job in supporting your daughter. It can be really difficult for young children to experience and make sense of anxiety.

The I have attached some guidance pages that may be worth taking a look at-

Sex education - a guide for parents - this has some helpful tips on how to talk about puberty and changes that may be happening for your daughter.

Anxiety - this page has some useful strategies to manage anxiety, you could maybe work together with your daughter on trying different ones. It can take some time to find strategies that work for your daughter.

Some children benefit from a 'self-soothe box' I have attached a guide from young mind in how you could go about this How to Make a Self-Soothe Box | Young Person Blog | YoungMinds

Contacting Childline | Childline -childline are a service which is free to use. Children can call or message and speak to a trained professional. It could be useful if your daughter wants to work through her worries with a professional.

Please reach out again if you or your daughter need any support/advice from our online community,

    Best wishes,
