GP was dismissive

Hi

After filling in forms for the GP I finally saw someone today to ask for a referral to be assessed for autism.

She told me that I might be autistic and will refer me but also said "you can't be that bad because you've got a husband, children and a full time job".

I got the referral which is what I wanted but now I'm second guessing myself after she said that.

  • Hey I’ve got a wife, two kids, and a full time job, too! Don’t let that get you second guessing yourself. Even if you have managed to find success in life it doesn’t mean that you don’t need supports that neurotypicals normally lack a need for. I know in my case it looks like I’m not Autistic because I am lucky to have supports (ex. my wife and a workplace that accommodates my needs) in my life.
