8 year daughter and 44 year old mum with autism

Hello

I’m new here I was diagnosed with adhd last April and waiting on an autism assessment in the next few weeks. To say my adhd diagnosis has changed my life is an understatement, I am now watching my little girl and realising I see a lot of traits in her too for both adhd and autism. I have spoken to her school and they are going to do something with her called a pupil voice and set up extra sensory breaks for her. I’m just unsure where else to go from here, I’m finding the whole thing so overwhelming, the more I read the more I make sense and my girl makes sense. I don’t really know what I’m asking here I’m just looking for support and anyone in a similar boat, what I do know is that I want my daughter to thrive, she’s so creative and funny and loving but I don’t really think she understands the whole concept really so I’m just going gently with it, we chat about it all the time and she is quite open with me.

  • Hi, I realise this was posted two months ago but I just wanted to say hi from an autistic 41-year-old mother of a 7 year old autistic daughter (I think, waiting for assessment). My daughter attends an emotional language support group at school and has a SEND plan but until she gets assessed she can't access much else. Personally, I was diagnosed a good ten years ago but only just coming to terms with it in the last couple of years. I've started unmasking and being true to myself which has changed my life for the better. Happy to chat about navigating life as an autistic parent.
