Late Diagnosis

Hello all.

I have recently been diagnosed with Autism at the age of 22. I am having a hard time coming to terms with it and accepting it. I’m finding that I’m becoming hyper-vigilant to everything I do and over analysing social situations. I just wondered if anyone had any advice on coming to terms with a diagnosis or becoming more understanding of yourself?

TIA.

  • Hi there

Although I’m undiagnosed it does get a little easier. I was beating myself up for months until I said to myself “you are who you are”. I had to scrutinise everything about what I did and why I did it differently. You will get there and feel more comfortable once you know what’s best for you. As ausomely said be easy on yourself, it’s a learning process and I found it quite overwhelming to realise your a certain way when you have been doing everyday things to please others and fit in.
Hope you make sense of it all soon!
