Late Diagnosis

Hello all.

I have recently been diagnosed with Autism at the age of 22. I am having a hard time coming to terms with it and accepting it. I’m finding that I’m becoming hyper-vigilant to everything I do and over analysing social situations. I just wondered if anyone had any advice on coming to terms with a diagnosis or becoming more understanding of yourself?

TIA.

  • Hi! Joining an autistic community like this one is a great way to learn more about your autistic experience after discovery. We can certainly help you with that!

I’m finding that I’m becoming hyper-vigilant to everything I do and over analysing social situations.

This maybe because now you know you are autistic, you are more aware of everything you are doing and how you may be different to other non autistic people. All I can say is please be kind to yourself, knowing you are autistic is a life changing piece of information to process.

This processing of your autistic discovery may take a while and regardless of how you feel towards this, all your emotions are valid.
