Help getting my 19 yr old assessed in our area

Hi we are a newly self-diagnosed autistic family and I am looking to get my 19 yr old daughter a formal diagnosis to get her support for university. We live in the Bristol area and are willing to pay to get it done qucker than the NHS but I want someone who knows how to diagnose autistic women, can recognise a good masker! Any recommendations would be very welcome or bad experiences to avoid, please. I am so stuck, I can't do the telephone and autistic inertia has meant we have procrastinated all summer holiday and time is running out before her course starts! Thank you

Any competent assessor will already have the results from the RAADS tests that are part of the adult assessment which are good indicators on their own of the autistic aspects of the person.

The follow up can probe other areas that are often present as autism (ADHD for example) as they share similar traits to identify if a separate ADHD assessment is needed. These conditions can co-exist so it will not be a case of discounting autism if they have ADHD traits fortunately.

I used Harley Psychiatists and got my appointment within 2 weeks and end to end it cost less than £500, but from what I hear from others they were charged quite a bit more so it may be worth checking before you commit:

My experience was to initially meet virtually with a psychiatrist who could ask questions to get a strong indication of autism within 15 mins. He then arranged for me to complete 2 online questionnaires (including a RAADS test) which he reviewed and gave me the feedback on the following week.

2 hours with the psychiatrist (including time reviewing the tests) came to less than £500.

I was then told to find a therapist to work through the issues I had. The ones they had were £125/hour or I found on Psychology Today a lot of other similarly qualified therapists with experience of treating autists for a much more reasonable £50/hour.

If you chose a similar route then times may vary depending on your communication ability and how willing you are to be open with them.

Just relaying my experience - prices may have changed since 2 years ago.
