Clothing advice needed

Hi there! I am a parent of a 6 year old girl who has ? ASD/ ADD.
I am here to educate myself.

She is fixed on wearing a nightie both day and night. Often, she wears the same underwear. We wish to support her but also to find a balance with hygiene and social expectations from her peers.

Some of the reasons we can tease out are sensory, dislike of change and control. Clothing causing her meltdowns and stress. As you all probably know better than me this is hard as she is growing and needs new clothing/footwear.

I would love some advice, wise words or simply hearing from the people who may understand the best.

Many Thanks in advance

  • I notice you included footwear in this. When my son's feet were growing we sometimes got the next size up so the style didn't change when he grew out of them. He also liked to wear shoes bigger than his size so we could move his toes in them when he felt stressed.

Dr Martens shoes were great for this for me - 40 years on they are still making the same style and it still appeals to the "youf of today" if the advertising is to be believed.

No need for the high, lace up boots - the simple shoes are plain enough, very durable and fashionable enough to appeal to many.

No connection to the company other than having owned many, many pairs in the past.
