Odd girl out

has anyone read ‘odd girl out’? I’ve only read -arts of it while researching for a project but from what I read I found it really good and helped put into words lots of experiences that I wasn’t able to before which was very validating. I’d recommend to any women with autism who want to read- it’s about the authors like and has some nice imagery. I want to fully read it at some point.

  • I think it was the second book from an autistic author that I listened to as an audiobook. Laura is very typical of how a late diagnosed person has been treated as being mentally ill all their life and finally the word autism is mentioned. She was having a procedure in hospital and had a meltdown, the nurse took her to a quiet room and just said,” don’t worry we see a lot of autistic people.” It shocked her but lit the fuse. I have the same argument from her book with my wife over what constitutes boiling water for making a tea or coffee. A kettle recently boiled isn’t boiling water! If you are enjoying her book then you might like Sara Gibbs book, Drama Queen.

  • I have it on my "to read" pile but I don't have the headspace for it at the moment, I'm in comfort reading mode.
