Trouble with friends

My daughter is 12 and recently started high school. She has just been diagnosed as Autistic last week. She has been telling me this week that she is finding making and keeping friends really hard as she feels like they are talking a different language to her. She has said that she is going to sit by herself at lunch tomorrow as she is finding it all so stressful and lonely. My heart is absolutely breaking for her, any ideas how I can help/support her?

  • I'm sorry to hear she is finding it difficult.  I would just caution, if she is anything like me, she will be a terrible judge of character ... i suggest to make sure she knows that she should be selective about who she befriends, or she may find 'undesirable types' taking advantage.
