Lorna Wing autism assessment - 17 year old girl - waiting times

Hello!

My family and I are thinking of going down the private route for a diagnosis as the NHS waiting times are really long, but were wondering what a private assessment wait time is like and can’t find any information? The Lorna Wing centre has been recommended to us by CAMHS and just wondered if anyone knows what their wait times are like?

Thank you,

Sky

  • The Lorna Wing is the NAS own diagnostic service and they are among the world's best and are well informed on presentation in women and girls.  They diagnosed me, actually and they were superb.  They don;t miss a thing, go into very great depth and their profile reports are very well written.  They will also put you at your ease.

Their wait times grew a lot during the pandemic and I know at one point had to suspend new additions to their waiting list.  If you are prepared to wait - no where near as long as the NHS, but probably more than some other places, you would be getting the best.

  • Thank you : ) is it less or more than a year, usually? I’m just trying to get a rough time frame, sorry for another reply thing.

  • Difficult to say.  I'd ask their admin who are very helpful.  When I self-referred in early 2021 I was told a couple of months, but as the pandemic really saw the numbers soring, it was November by the time I got it.  I'd still be waiting now on the NHS and the Lorna Wing were well worth it.

I did hear at about the time I got my profile report that they had temporarily had to close their lists.  Hopefully they will be open again now.  Even if you wait a bit longer than for other providers, you can rest assured with them that they will get to the truth and help you all feel at ease with the process.
