12 year old not coping socially- help (first post)

Our 12 year old autistic daughter is in mainstream education in a lovely very small school but she’s really struggling. Academically there are no concerns but she cannot make connections with others. She feels isolated, excluded and is becoming angry, unregulated and is saying things she shouldn’t as she feels provoked and judged. She cannot manage interactions and girls are spreading rumours, they’re angry at her and questioning reasonable adjustments in place for her.

does anyone have any advice for specialist support to focus on this particular area? She does not wish to attend counselling but we would love to find someone who might be able to help. We just don’t know what to do.

thanks for anything you might be able to suggest.

  • I think the school should be working with the other girls picking on her as much as trying to support her.

I got bullied at school and the head told me "if only I were more like the other children, I wouldn't get picked on".  My mother was not impressed. No one did anything to correct their behaviour.

But that was the 1970s!  We are now in 2020s and I rather think the school should be a bit more proactive with your daughters class mates around accepting difference.
