Hi there. My son recently got diagnosed and has very prominent ASD traits, making daily life very challenging (but still very special).
I am really concerned as he seems to hate anything on his or anyone else's face. E.g. I cannot wear glasses anymore or even have a blob of spot cream on my cheek as he frantically tries to get rid of it. This I can handle, however he has recently developed a whitehead/mole type blemish at the side of his eye, and he is constantly trying to pick it off and getting upset at the fact that it is simply there. It is so distressing to see him so upset that this blemish is on his face. I'm really scared he is going to do some harm and scar himself.
If he has any cuts or bruises on his body, for days, week even, he will sit obsessing over them and stroking them, presumably thinking that will make them go away.
His speech is delayed so I cannot reason with him and explain that it is normal to have such blemishes on our skin, or that a cut/bruise will disappear in time.
Any advice would be much appreciated :)
Emma.
