Teacing staff and school

Hi can someone please give me some advice??My son has severe autism etc and all the books etc I have read say talk quietly and calmly to asd kids.We have had major probs at home but school he is fine but has a meltdown every evening after school. After loads of investigating realised he cant cope with school as taxi there and back is well basically 1 and half hrs of madness with other kids!!!Dont want to sound like perfect child syndrome But mine is until he gets home???Then the days offload comes out and we all suffer.Plus he has told me the teachers shout and bang rulers on the table???not at him though just the whole class??My child IS PERFECT at school but has major episodes at home but is one of the quiet ones left in the corner like almost forgotten because he doesnt create like most!!Most importantly should teachers in special schools SHOUT AND BANG RULERS ON DESKS??

  • everyone has a way of keeping calm you just have to look for it and if the taix to school is a problem ask school if somone he knows and trusts could go with him it just might work im not saying that it will but thats how i would deal with it sometimes having somting at home he can look foward to might also help

hope i was of some help to you

    The Major

  • I know what you mean, I never kick off in school (have started to slightly but thats only because I now have friends and some SEN teachers encouraging me to) but as soon as my mum gets home I pretty much drag her to my room and rant for about an hour. And I'm 18!

No, they shouldn't shout and bang rulers on the desks, although as far as they're concerned it may be the best way to get the attention of other kids with conditions such as ADHD. Sadly I doubt they'll change this habit as when my mum has confronted teachers about yelling at the class continuously they merely state its the only way to keep the rest of the class under control. The needs of 29 odd vs 1..... yeah, so I was basically told to 'deal with it'. I'm afraid this is the response you may get :(
