new to community and in need of help

hi

my little boy is 6 and has asd .

he was diagnosed when he was 3 .

I'm in need of advise

my self and my little boys dad split up before he was diagnosed and he has recently started sleeping at his dads every other weekend .

his dad does nothing to help my little boy with his autism if anything he seems to be making him more upset .

My ex has no clue what so ever on asd and thinks its ok to say nasty stuff about my daughter from a previous relationship and my fiancé .

every time my little boy comes back from his dads he cries tells me he hates me my daughter and my fiancé and that his dad said he was going to live with him .

as my son has got older its harder to communicate with him because once he gets things stuck in to his head he wont get them out .

is there any advise any one can give me

I strongly suggest you also speak to your family lawyer about these issues and do a very simple social story with your son that it is a judge who decides where a child lives until they are 16 years old if the parents can't agree so neither you or his father can make that decision alone.

Also, if he claims he hates his sister and your partner then it's important you get some positive time with your son and these two as soon after he returns from his Dad, so he can see the discordance between what he's being lead to believe and what is reality.

A book you may find useful is "Splitting" by Bill Eadie which talks about parents who try to alienate kids from.their family.

  • thank you for your help .

I will give the help line a call .

and I have been on the early birds course so has my ex but it has made no difference to my ex

  • Hi NAS23742,

Your situation sounds very difficult, I am sorry.  I think the team who are best equipped to answer your question would be our Autism Helpline, as they can provide you with information and advice on your issue. You can call them on 0808 800 4104 (Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm, Friday 9am to 3pm), although please note that the Helpline is experiencing increasingly high demand, and you may not reach them straight away.
