Yesterday my adopted, ASD, 14 year old son had his first (part) day at his new, special school and he loved it :)
I started the ball rolling early last July (2016), mid July 16 he came home practically suicidal after two years in mainstream, excused for the last two weeks of term with a GP letter, September 2016, I de-registered him from the school and began home-schooling. All went well for a little while then I crashed out of my part time job under the stress. Gradually the home-schooling experience became the bane of our life and just as I was at the point of giving up hope of gaining an EHCP after ten months, I got the Final version, naming the special (city) school of our choice even though we live in the 'shires' which come under anothe LA.
His new headteacher has taken him on even though the plan was for him to go in September 2017 - he had a taster session yesterday for a few hours and will be doing afternoons after half term till they break up for summer.
The journey seemed endless, I never thought it would finally happen but it has and I have the new polo shirts with new school logo to prove it lol.
Happy days!! And about blooming time!!
So, don't give up the fight, make yourself a nuisance, I did; I eventually began to copy in heads of department, strategic directors etc to my emails and it appears to have worked!!!
