what would you have done?

hi, I have a 5yr old boy who is currently being assessed for ASD. hw goes to weekly martial arts classes but today the usual instructor was either sick or on holiday and there was someone else taking the class. My son absolutely lost it , melted down and refused to go in. I appreciate that he has difficulties with change and transitions and this is partly what triggered the need for assessment but Equally want to support him to challenge himself and foster perseverence and resilience. So my question is what would you have done as a parent in this situation?? How can I help him overcome this sort of hurdle?

  • No unfortunately. I couldn't find a way to make him I tried calming him then suggested just watching for a little while, promised I would stay right by the door where he could see me, pointing out friends, another parent whose child was going in offered for her son to go in with him. Nothing worked. I suppose that was my question... how to support him to take on challenges like that that are scary for him because of his autistic traits?
