Hi - my son is nearly 14, was diagnosed with autism at 4, went to mainstream school with 1-2-1 support and is now at an MLD school. He seems happy, goes in, comes home, but then wishes to be on his own with his computer or iPad. He needs full time care, for example he still has difficulty in remembering to look all around before crossing a road.
Although he has speech (although not clear when anxious or upset) he chooses not to talk much , e.g when asked how school went, and what he did etc.
Although he knows he has something called autism, we have not discussed it much.we have little idea about how he feels about a lot of things, certainly about what it means.
I wondered what experience other of you have had out there about timing, and the pros and cons of raising the issues of what it all means, particularly the future.
Many thanks
David
