My three-year-old daughter has sensory autism and we have a lot of issues with her getting dressed, brushing her hair, cutting her nails etc. I can manage most of these with lots of patience and visual cues.
However, she has an aversion to the car seat and this is causing major issues. Every trip in the car results in a massive meltdown to the point where I dread taking her anywhere.
She writhes in her seat, takes the belt off and screams for the whole journey - no matter what the length is.
If there are two of us, I can manage it by sitting in the back and stroking her feet or hands - but when I'm on my own it's so hard.
I've tried visual cues, social stories and even changing her car seat and loosening it as much as saftey allows.
Does anybody else have these issues with their child and is there anything that has worked really well?
Thanks in advance.
