help with crowds for special occasion

Hi all,

My son has been invited to attend the diamond jubilee concert and go to the Palace!!! this is through the Boys Brigade, 4 boys have been selected by headquaters and this is obviously a high honor and an experience that I dont want him to miss out on due to his AS and Dyspraxia. He is 17 and his 15 year old brother is accompaning him for emotional support. (all the boys invited could take a friend)

I wont list all my concerns, you all know them anyway! but it may be a BB officer that he doesnt know accompaning him, in that case my husband will travel and stay over with the boys but wont be able to attend the events with him.

So any advice to prepare him for the events themselves would be great as we obviously cant visit before hand to familiarise him and the crowds and noise will be hard to handle.

Thanks

Sam

  • If its the noise of the crowds you're worried about I'd recommend having him watch the football, or having a football game on in the background, as thats a pretty good indication of the sounds a hyped up crowds make. Plus because its only the TV, he can distance himself from any shock that he would associated with the sounds, meaning he may not be as overwhelmed.

If you want him to get used to crowds, try public transport, I avoid it as best I can personally but maybe your son can come up with a way of distracting himself, like trying to list the items of a certain colour that he can see.

    Hope this helps.
