hi all
looking for advice please
my son is 11 and starting secondary in Septembe. He has autism and verbal dyspraxia he has been in a language unit since 5 and has done well but is still behind socially and academicall. He is quite high functioning friendly and happy but also demandin. He has no siblings apart from his sister who died shortly after birth. He struggles to make friends.
there is no local school which meets his speech need and he has been offered a place at a non maintained special speech and communication school on the Isle of Wight. He done a three day assessment to be offered the place and loved being in the house with the other 5 boys. He'd have his own bedroom and the care staff seem fab.
but his my little man I love him so much and the thought of not being able to kiss him goodnight is killing me. the only other option is mainstream and I fought hard for this school. Each class has 6 pupils with a teacher salt it and assistant. Only 56 pupils total up to age 16 then sixth form option. I am worried he may not tell me if his is homesic or unhappy as he is conformity boy at school.
has anyone else been in this position? Any advice would be great
