Obtaining a Classroom Asistant for my son

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could share theyre thoughts on my current situation with my son.

He is due to start post primary in september but currently doing part time school hours as he cant cope (he is in mainstream). After an extremely long fight to get his needs assessed by the education board this was completed, however they have not agreed to giving him a class room assisstant. They have noted on the report he has SEN needs in the category of Social, Emotional and behavioural needs. His IQ was just about low average but his Adaptive functioning and behaviour was below the bottom 1% scoring a score of 0.01 of children his age. They did note quite a lot of issues some things he is acheiving low average and some under attaining anf have gave a lot of recommendation. They are offering behavioural support and to review the situation but even his class teacher has told me unless i get the classroom assistant there is no point in sending him to post primary as he couldnt function without one. Has anyone ever appealed the decision on the grounds of Social Emotional and behaviour needs and been successful in obtaining a classroom assisstant. He is 10 years old and suffers emense anxiety related to school and was diagnosed with Asperger at the age of 4.

Many Thanks
