First GP Appointment

Hello,

I hope it is okay for me to join and post this here.

For a while now we have been noticing signs that my 3.5 year old may have some form of autism.

I would like to discuss it with my GP, but I am not sure of the best way to go about it.

I have made a list of observations so that I don't forget anything when I go (I haven't made the appointment yet though) I was just wondering if I should take my daughter with me to the intial appointment?

Would the intial appointment be more of a chat with me, and then come back with her if the doctor thinks I need to. Or is it better to take her so the doctor can see her?

Is the GP the right person to go to, or should I try the health visitors clinic first? I would have to take a day off work to go there as it is only open when I'm in work, or ask my mum to take her. I just don't want to go to the wrong person and waste anytime.

Thank you for reading!

  • Hi there,

I can't answer your question as I came on this board to ask the exact same thing! My son is also 3.5 and ive had concerns for about a year now, things don't seem to be getting any better and i'm about 80% sure he is on the spectrum altough i'm really not ready to admitt it, family keep telling me that he's just an excitable little boy and he most likely isnt on the spectrum but i feel it's time now to find an answer. It's nice to know there are other people in my situation as i'm finding it very scary :-(
