I have received some unexpected help today and thought I would share the information in case it's useful for others.
I've been struggling with my son, who is 11 and was diagnosed with Asperger's at age 8, especially with behavioural and anger issues. He is also hypermobility and this has led to quite a few attendances at A&E for dislocations etc. His latest visit was picked up by a member of the school nursing team. I've never had any contact with this team before, but they have knowledge of and access to a lot of other services.
Following today's meeting with a school nurse we are going to:
- Set up a Team Around the Child (TAC) which will meet at his school to see if there are further ways to help him
- We should be allocated a family support worker
- He is being referred to a dietician
- I am going to be referred for courses to help develop skills to manage his behaviour.
I wish I'd known this service existed before. I have been to various support groups, but School nurses have never been mentioned.
