I have a 13 year old daughter who was diagnosed with autism aged 10 but who presents as if she is coping. Her school has taken her off the SEN register but the latest data report indicates that she is considerably under-performing in seven subjects. She seems to struggle with executive function but I feel as if no-one can see the difficulties that she faces. I have been to the GP who says that this is normal teenage behaviour. Is it? - I don't know! I would like to have an assessment for her so that we have a clearer picture of any needs she might have and be masking, but where can we go for this? Does the school have any legal requirement to help us? We have a letter stating that she has met the criteria for asd but so far that letter appears to carry no weight as it has not entitled her to any further support. Now we are in no-man's land with a harder curriculum and less money in the school bank. I think my daughter is in danger of failing her exams unless we intervene. Thank you for any advice that can be given.
