My son is 6 years old and has recently been dignosed with high functioning ASD and ADHD. I'd been trying to get him assessed since he was 2 but it only picked up pace when he became so violent at school that he had to be moved into special education.
He is now on stimulant medication for ADHD which had the suprise effect of stopping his explosions during the day, he can still become violent during the evening though. CAMHS have given him a top up tablet for after tea but I don't use it because it means he is wide awake for much of the night.
I think the violence needs to be dealt with as it is still there, just hidden during the day. It's hard to get people to understand just how badly he blows up unless they see it, I'm really worried that when he gets a bit bigger he won't be safe for me to be around, 90% of the time he is kind and loving but I can't push this fear out of my mind. What kind of help should I be asking for?
