NAS schools & local Autism services

Hi Everyone

This is the first time I've posted here. Currently looking for a new placement for my 16 year old whose current special school can no longer meet her needs. Am I the only Parent who finds that their child has the 'wrong type' of Autism for NAS schools or indeed specialist services generally? The general response I seem to receive from autism 'specialist' services is that my daughter won't fit with the 'current' group, which means she will never access any NAS services as her Autism prevents as too challenging. I find it soo frustrating that I have a local NAS school but can't use it.

  • I assume that she has an EHCP and is in a special school at present? And that you need a new setting because she has reached the age for transition? Sorry if this is obvious from what you've posted, as we are at a completely different stage!

    I was having a scout around looking for different settings and there seems to be a gap in the market for a comprehensive register. I used the following so maybe you might find them useful if you haven't already. It means going to each website and then checking out each individual school and trying to understand the "pen profiles" of the children on roll to see if they match your daughter. Don't restrict your search to local authority schools as you may qualify for private provision if the cost of LA is equal or more, or no suitable provision is available. It's a lot of work, but good luck.

    Also your Local Offer should have a list of all schools for you to research
