What school support should I expect?

Hi there.

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. My youngest boy has recently turned 6 and last week started his year 1 in an "outstanding" mainstream school. He has Global Delay and was diagnosed with Asd about 2yrs ago and has an EHCP in place prior to starting in reception. I deferred his school start due to his slow development and him being a late summer born boy.

He is banded to E1 and is a previously looked after child, therefore there is a reasonable chunk of financial support supplied to his school annually.

In his reception year he had extra support 4days per week from a specialist teacher giving him some 1-1 time and also small group work. She was also very experienced with children with Special needs. I was aware that she worked via an agency and as I understood that was her choice.

I was made aware at the end of last term that she was not returning this year and that there was someone currently at the school who would be replacing her. On day 1 last week I asked the Secco who would be his support this year and was informed that it would be the class T.A. Who would be doing 3 afternoons per week in small group interventions but not necessarily just for his class.

What I would like to hear is what level of support do other people receive in a similar situation? I feel very let down by the school.

Thanks and await feedback X
