Autism and Puberty

How to deal with a 15 year old autistic experiencing puberty?

  • Thank you so much for sharing your brother's experience with me. I am totally convinced that parents should be invloved and that they play a crucial role in explaining the puberty phase to their autistic children. The National Autistic Society has also sent me useful videos that I can use with the autistic child at the school I am working at.

  • My brother is about to turn 18 so we just got done going through the puberty stage. All I can say is that my mom was completely honest with my brother. She explained things to him just like she would to anyone else and just made sure that he knew to ask her or my dad any questions he might have about anything going on. He hasn't had any problems with it. He's asked some awkard questions, but at least it gave them the opportunity to answer it and explain it to him. I don't know if this helps at all, but that's what worked best with my brother.
