Autism parent depressed

hi all, I'm new here so hello. Just wondered if there were any other autism parents struggling with depression. My husband is really not coping and just doesnt have the patience for our ASD son (7years old). He ends up getting angry and then gets very down because he got angry. He upsets our son which upsets me. So I feel like piggy in the middle.  Any advise or places of help. Thanks Rachel - Desperate mum

  • Hi Rachel

your husband is not alone in feeling like this. someone once said you can almost go through a period of grief for a while becuase you girieve for the child you expected and have to learn to accept the one you have. it doesnt mean he doesnt love him but you have to work through this emotional barrier. i think forums like this are helpful and if you seach there are autisim support groups for families in most areas which you can visit. i am new to this as well and having to learn to find new ways of doing things with my teenage daughter that doesnt make her so stressed she wont eat/ leave the house. good luck.... we are always here for you to chat..
