Benefits for College Students

Hi .. Does anyone know what benefits are available to a 19 year old starting college in September 2016?  My son has his PIP in place so the transport and bursary are sorted but would he be entitled to anything else claim wise? Even regardless of him going to College is there anything that he is entitled to?  I am so confused ... TIA

    Your son (or you) could also contact the college. Most or possibly all colleges have someone who can advise about the impact on benefits for a student's specific situation. If they decide they can only speak with currently enrolled students hopefully they would direct you to an alternative service locally.

    He should ask for and receive a disabled student's assessment in advance of starting his course and there should be a service in the college to provide this. There is something called Disabled Students Allowance, which I've only heard of in higher education, but maybe because I haven't had reason to find out about further education. Anyway, it's to help with the additional costs that a disabled student incurs while studying. For example, a friend of mine with a visual impairment has received a laptop with relevant software. It all depends on the student's individual needs.
