Hello. Our autistic son is approaching 18 and is starting to come under the wing of adult social services. We have applied to become his welfare deputy as we were alarmed that a permission to share his medical and care details form we were shown, did not have any facility for us to give permission - unless we were a welfare deputy. If we are not a welfare deputy then the permission to share is taken within social services and is therefore outside our control.
My question to the wise members of this community is: apart from the expense, is there a downside to being welfare deputies? Does it for example make getting care support more difficult?
