Not sure how to help my brother...help

Hi, I'm new to this community. I could really do with a little advice. My brother was diagnosed at 7 approx. He went to main stream schooling. He found main stream tough in all ways. He struggled emotionally and in an academic sense. He failed his GCSEs on the whole but did get a pass in BTEC pe which was great.

hes gone to a Sen college and they're great, however he doesn't go, doesmt pull his weight, is now being mean to others who he deems ' below'  him. college have called a meeting and i think he's on his last chance.

so what strategies could you recommend to get him realising that him staying at college is the best option For him. He wants to stay at home and sit on his bum all day...

Thanks everyone X

  • He wants to stay at home because it's where he feels safe. He's obviously not happy at this college, and he may or may not be able to tell you why. He may be suffering from depression.

You say he's treating people like they're below him - this might indicate that he feels frustrated and/or angry because he knows he is not stupid, but feels that being at an sen college makes him look like he is.

I appreciate that you want the best for him, but having suffered depression at college myself and leaving after a year instead of staying a second year as planned, I know that staying would not have been the best thing for me.

Despite being of above average intelligence, I've always struggled to achieve when studying in a classroom situation. I've found that distance learning suits me best, studying subjects that I'm really interested in and can get absorbed in. Would it be possible for him to try this?
