Really need some advice.....

Hello,

I have never posted on here but am really in need of some advice. My daughter is almost 6 and now in yr1 of infant school. She has always been particuarly high maintenance and was seen by our local CAMHs team for a year between age 3-4. At the time she was displaying hyperactive traits and also problems with soiling. She took time to settle at pre-school and everyday we would have to follow a ritual of 'things' before me leaving her there, she would always need to be left with a teacher and was often obsessive other certain teachers. She started yrR surprisingly well, loved her teacher/LSA and was happy in general. The concerns her teacher raised was her inability to sit still, impulsive behaviour and that she would often interrupt people and 'call out' despite being constantly reminded to put her hand up etc, also social skills. I think they thought this would improve over time but we are well into yr1 and its an even bigger problem! Also now they have additional concerns...They have apparently done a 'Boxall' scoring on here which has flared up problems with high anxiety and very low self esteem and confidence. She struggles with friendships and basically cant cope if people will not play things 'her way' which leads to lots of people falling out with her! She currently has an obsession with getting 'locked in' places, so she wont go in lifts, shops with automatic doors etc etc. Since I can remember she has been freaked out by people dressed up, she says she cant cope with not being able to see peoples faces....She doesnt sleep well either, she cant seem to switch off and on 2 ocassions has randomly said she has had bad thoughts about wanting to hurt herself....although I am not convinced she understands the meaning of saying things like this..I feel so sad for her   she also struggles massively with eye 2 eye contact......

The school are being helpful, the school ELSA is supporting her and our GP made a referral again to CAMHs but they have said they cant see her as she doesnt meet their now 'very high' criteria!!!????? So school are now suggesting Child and family guidance?

Initally we thought she presented as ADHD, but a friends openly said to me that she is the mirror image of her son at the same age and he has Aspergers.....Any opinions!?

I just want to help her and see her happy again as they seems to troubled and confused.....She has an IEP at school but they are obviously pushed for resources and currently have no space in their Nuture group for her..

Hope someone can help

  • I am also new to this site and have never posted before, I am mum to 2 boys who have both been recently diagnosed - my youngest who is 6 presented with similar traits to your daughter.  CAMHS also refused to see my eldest son first time round he is now 9 and we have been trying to get him seen for 3 years, we were finally successful in the summer of this year.  Get your GP to re-refer to CAMHS, I was informed this time round that i could have done a self referral but felt that the GP would hold more weight.

Keep trying, its not easy and is so frustrating when you know that something is not 'quite right', at least the school is doing something with the IEP - is your SENCO involved as often they can start the process of by involving EP's, OT and SALT this will all help with the CAMHS referral.

I hope you get somewhere with it soon x
