Feeling bullied into sending autistic son to special needs school.

Hi

We have a 3 year old son attending mainstrem nursery who may we add is doing well but feel that the healthcare proffessionals i.e speech and language are pushing for us to send him to special needs nursery which they have been pushing for for the last year. We have said no to this on every occasion we have been asked, as we feel that because our son mimics and has echophillia he could pick up traits that he does not have at the moment. We recieved a telephone call from our newly appointented health visitor, who went on to say that we as parents are not meeting our sons needs eductionaly and has threanted us with social services. I can not understand how this has turned around on us as parents when it seems to us that the reason the speech and language therapist wants our son to go to a special needs nursery is purely for there convinence to have all there children under one roof. I thought under the autism act my son had the right to recieve the help he needs in any educational setting he is in.

please help.

  • To be honest i think they are being very hasty trying to push you into sepcail school, when my son was at the school nursery  must have been hellish for them, he needed a 1-1, and nobody ever tried to force anything upon me.

Hes 8 now almost and he is coping okish in mainstream.

Did you mean Echolia? if so that what my son goes through phases of,being constantly repetitive ect.

I think on so many levels its wrong for the health visitor to try and force your hand at such a your hand,so so wrong. Children can and do improve sometimes,my son doesnt need 1-1 now or for the last ear or two.

If i were you id get in touch with Parent Partnership and ask them for some help xxx
