My daughter is 2 years old and has recently been diagnosed with autisim. Im not a single father however I am not in a relationship with my daughters mother either. My daughter was born when I was 18 and I loved the feeling of becoming a dad. However over the last two years me and my daughters mother began noticing certain things about her which give us signs something wasnt right.
It all began at first with her sleeping. She would always wake at different times in the night and this would happen 6 - 7 times everyday. She began waving her hands and body as though she was having a severe fit and would do this constantly when she was excited. She became engrossed in the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episodes it has become almost an addiction and has to watch at least 3 - 4 episodes a day to keep her calm.
It became more apparent and very scary recently when me and my partner took my daughter and my step daughter to a supermarket. We had been mcdonalds before this and she was in a really good mood. She has never ever liked shopping anyway but has never done what she did that day before. We placed her in the trolley and began walking through the first aisle, within seconds of this she became fidgety and wanted to get out of the trolley. After telling her no and telling her to sit still she began screaming and hitting. So to calm her down I took her outside to the car to calm her down however during this time she had hit me 3 - 4 times in my face and also had bitten me. Because of this I had placed her in the car in her car seat and had strapped her in. She began hitting the window and using my step daughters booster seat to try and put the window through also.
She still doesnt sleep through and I am finding it very difficult to cope with the way she is. I feel as though I shouldnt be taking her out of her routine with her mom and only having her during the day. However I have always wanted to do the right thing and care for my daughter and have never thought of walking out on her. However I am at the end of my teather with everything that has happened.
Can Anyone help me?
