How do I get my boy into a special needs school

hi all, newbie here, I have a gorgeously bonkers son with autisum and he attends ( used loosely) mainstream, I am constantly being called to " come pick him up, he's done this/that/ something" he does receive 1-1 support but I'm not a complete donut to know that they are used elsewhere in the class, but he is hitting/kicking etc and is now on reduced hours, it's not the first time, nor will it be the last and despite how lovely the teachers are and really do try with him, he obviously is not getting something he needs, there is a local school that caters for the bonkers children and seems to be just what he needs, but I'm unaware how to go about it?

i was under the impression that said child would flourish alongside "normal" children but he's not, so am in need of some direction, I'm attending my first camhs meeting on wed (24/7)  but just want a heads up if anyone can?

by the way, I mean no harm in the whole "bonkers" thing, it's what he calls himself rather than autistic because it's funnier, apparently also there are other issues he faces as is the norm for ads kids, but I do tend to ramble so this is the edited version!

  • Hi Sarahmoomoo,

Thanks so much for sharing your story and we hope you find our community useful. We understand your use of 'bonkers' in a playful way to describe your son, however, please be aware that others in the community may not feel that it is an appropriate description of their child's autism or autism in general.

    Take care,
