Help with my son!

Hiya,

I am struggling with my son. He is 3 years old and going through diagnosis at the moment. My main problem is when we are out. He has to run everywhere? I have two other children who are at school and my son makes this so difficult to walk and meet them. He has no sense of danger so will just run into the road. He has his routines he has to do on the way and they all involve doing things he shouldn't (running up peoples drives, hiding behind trees). I have to make this trip three times a day and I get so tired of trying to stop him and telling him no. He doesn't speak and am not even sure if he understands no!? I was wondering if anyone has any ideas to keep his mind off doing these things or to help me stop him running everywhere as it isn't fair on my other children. We live near a main road so the whole way home is me chasing him, worrying he will run into the road and the other kids running along behind us.

  • Hi my son is 3 1/2 currently waiting for a diagnosis he used to be the same going to school was a nightmare used to take 30-45mins and now it takes 15-20 school is only up the road! We have put a few things in place as he gets distressed with road noises this is why he used to run so now we play nursery ryhmes on the way to school and I warn him if there are any lorries or tractors buses etc Coming and reassure him he's ok. Also he has to walk on every wall and look at every holly bush but by doing this it's distracting him and he will hold my hand all the way. If your son has any special interests use them as a distraction on your way it might help hope it does. I hope your school journeys start to go smoother. Good luck..
