fecal hiding and smearing

Hi All, Does anyone have any experience of this really challenging behaviour? My son is 8.5 years and has done this for years as well as frequently soiling his pants. I have to constantly search the house and disinfect. Physical causes for the soiling have been ruled out. He is still not diagnosed but had an assessment last month and the paediatrician said that his behaviours strongly indicate that he is on the spectrum. She still wants more information from his school. Talking to him about the hiding, smearing and soiling issue has got me nowhere. Still can't find out from him why he does it and normal sanctions have never worked.  Any ideas anyone please, am getting desperate now

  • Thanks Emma, it seems like it may well be sensory driven as when I asked him the other day why he liked doing it he said it feels smooth. He also forms small balls and hides them under the sofa etc We talked about getting him some play dough as that is also smooth and he can roll it into balls and I am getting him some this weekend
