Hi new to the forum

Hi everyone, we are new to be forum.

We have a wonderful 2 year old little boy. He has been referred to a paediatrician by our health visitor becasue she has some concerns about him being autistic. This is going to seme quite negative but I just want to explain some of the things we have noticed.

He is a wonderful character and I adore him and that will never change I just want to be able to help him as much as I can.

my health visitor was concerned about a few things:

he is far behind in his development and has no speech at all.

he only spins the wheels of cars and doesn't play with the whole car,

he doesn't pretend play at all.

he doesn't respond to his name very often,

he doesn't make eye contact very often and if he does it's with me or his dad.

He doesn't like strangers in the house and will get very worked up and almost make himself sick,

he doesn't interact at all with other children,

he loves books however most of our board books have been chewed,

he loves toys that spin they are his favourite,

he cannot point at all,

he seems in a world of his own most of the time and it can be very hard to get his attention,

he paces up and down looking out of the corner of his eye,

he spins himself in circles,

he hits himself repeatedly in the head luckily it's with a soft toy at the moment,

he has a meltdown if we go to a supermarket or a playgroup (which i now try to avoid)

would appreciate anyone's adivce. Thank you everyone Smile

  • Hi, welcome Smile.  When the paediatrician has done the assessment you'll know whether your son is autistic or not.  If he is then early intervention is important.  In the meantime, if you think he is, you can learn lots via the home page + the posts.  You can chip in whenever you want + ask whatever you want.  Lots of support, expertise etc on here.
