Severe challenging behaviour and activities.

Hello all! New to the forum but a long time reader.

Without giving too much information out I currently work with a gentleman who has severe challenging behaviour and is at the high end of the spectrum.

I'm finding it rather difficult finding this gentleman activities that would be appropriate. We've tried a range of things from swimming (which he loves) to rock climbing, music therapy. The problem we have is that he is obese and we want him to lose some of the weight he currently has.

Currently on 2:1 in house and 3:1 for new activities. I know it's very vague but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you :)

David.

  • Hi David,

I dont know how practical this would be as am unsure of specific difficulties the gentleman has or how overweight he is but have you thought of contacting the Riding for the Disabled organisation. It is a great activity for loosing weight and theraputic with the contact with horses. Obviously this wouldnt suit everyone and would need to consider if the gentleman might hurt the horse!! but it is worth a try.
