Need help with benefits

Hi,

My wife has aspergers, avpd and bdp she struggles every day and is unable to work due to her not being able to function in any type of social situations. I am in work full time at the moment but due to the care she needs and I am considering leaving work to concentrate on helping her. Does anyone know if I would be  entitled to carers allowance or income support etc?

She has suicidal thoughts and also have general anxiety disorder along with severe depression some days she refuses to even get out of bed and she will not leave the house without me even to go to the corner shop.

Thanks for any advice.

  • Hi FM88,

I have ASD and depression and psychosis.  My husband now works part time, but was out of work looking after me for some time.

I get DLA, now people claim PIP.  When you get that you can make a claim for carers allowance, which is about £60 a week.We own a house so are seen as having savings, so we can't claim income support etc, but my husband now gets Working tax credit as he works, which gives us an extra little bit.

I hope you get sorted, what ever decisions you make.  Has your wife got a CPN or other worker through the community mental health team, as you may need to start there... they'll give you back up when making claims for PIP.

Oh and there is ESA which your wife should get too.

    Have fun form filling!!!!
