Looking for a bit of advice

Hello,

i just need a little bit of advice really, maybe from someone that has been through this, going through this or has just a helpful idea that may be of use.

My 6 year old son is finding a long school day very difficult. He is retreating within himself, his mood swings are increasing when he is at home and just his general Autistic traits are being multiplied by it.

Nothing has changed to have caused this, ( I have noticed it slowly becoming more of an issue over the last few months. There doesn't seem to be any bullying or major incidents that maybe triggering it either.

The fact is I think he has just become emotionally and mentally drained by what he has to go through during the day.

Now down to my question, has anyone heard, witnessed or done with their own child the possibility of asking if his school hours be cut down for a limited time? I mean maybe half days for a few weeks to see if that can help him?

The way he is at the moment isn't very conducive of productive education for the lad.

thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • Hi, he could well be tired.  He's still little + it's a long day. Yorkshire lass makes many good points.   Are you sure everything's ok at school?  Has he got enough support - a TA for example?  Many of our children get stressed out at school.  Too many demands put upon them, class sizes too big, lunchtime, playtime, noise etc.
