Hi all
Can anyone tell me where I can find out if the SEN Code of Practice applies to non accredited courses held at day centres? A centre near me runs open courses on a slightly informal adhoc style with "tutors" running activities. Should these be led in similar ways to courses run in schools and colleges, i.e. with learning outcomes and objectives and individual learning plans etc? Or can they just run informally with no particular structure. They are specifically advertised and run for individuals over 19 with learning disabilities.
I'd be grateful for any information or pointers, as there are several people struggling with the sessions and it would be good to direct organisers to anything they should be complying with.

This system is weird! I don't know why these old topics are still visible. I see there is another 13-year-old thread "NAS Accreditation" also visible. Usually I check the date, I must have missed this one! These old threads should have been archived years ago.

How have you ended up here
Forgive me for stating the obvious, but have you asked the centre manager or the tutor? Usually educational provision for 16+ would be through a College of Further Education, where an EHCP would apply. Many day centres are social care provision and offer "recreational" activities. Social Services commissioned day centres are not usually education provision as such.
An accredited course should have a syllabus and specific learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Often this involves some sort of portfolio or record or attainment.
