Concerns regarding teen access to illicit apps (Warning: Sensitive subject)

The Guardian article on teen access to “Nudify Apps”

I apologize for bringing up a sensitive subject, but I came across this news article and given this community’s common threads regarding ties between Autism and AI I assumed this would be pertinent to share.

I have a major concern in general for how American teens are taught (or rather, not taught) about the role of consent in sexuality, and I believe that it is a topic that needs to be clearly defined to young Autistic men in particular. Autistic teens struggle with many social concepts, with the idea of clear consent being possibly one of those concepts.

If you happen to be a parent to an Autistic preteen/teen (regardless of gender / sexual identity), I implore you to have the difficult discussion of what “Nudify Apps” are and why they are horribly immoral. Not only that, but there’s the likelihood that images generated from it could get possessors in serious legal trouble.

I can see Autistic male teens in particular not understanding that if someone is unaware that you have sexually explicit material of them, that does not mean you are exempt from needing consent from them.

  • I think they're being banned here, I saw something on Newsnight about it last week, if not banned for everybody then certainly for teenagers.

  • Yeah, but I recently saw a case where a teacher was arrested in US for creating AI generated nudify content of I think it was sixth graders? (Ages around 11 years old?) So it’s not just the teen boys that are using these apps in schools.

Even for adults, there’s no good use of these apps. It’s not like the general intention is for adults to consensually put themselves in these pictures, right?

  • I think they've focussed on teens here because it an easier way in with the tech companies. I agree that there's no good reason for these sort of apps, but here in the UK, we feel held to ransom a bit by big tech and I suspect in much of the rest of Europe and Australia too, tech companies just ignore us, or threaten us with law suits and then go and talk to Trump to tell him to put tariffs on us and other nonsense.
