Hello, I hope you are all ok?.
New here, joined today.
In need of some advice, help, info, etc, on nursery placements.
My little girl, who will be four in February, diagnosis of ASD with a PDA profile, this week, started her nursery placement at a specialist setting, where she receives a one on one nursery assistant support. She has only been allocated 6hrs over two days which I’m happy about due to her anxieties.
Now I know she’s only been for two mornings and understand that this is only the start of this next chapter in her life, but both times I have picked her up and she’s cried the whole time I’ve left her. The nursery have let me leave when I feel ready, which to be honest is never, but I try and give it a go anyway, but from the moment I leave, she cries.
I understand this is the case for a lot of children. And of course, it’s scary for them, but the two times I have picked her up, she’s extremely withdrawn. Cried to a point of exhaustion and constantly yawning because of how worn out she is. Pale in the face and her eyes are so vacant. It also take her a long time to come back down to earth so they say. I’ve never seen her so burnout.
Like I’ve said, it has only been two sessions but my question is, when do you stop and how long do you keep going for?.
I’m encouraging her and supporting her every step of the way but because of the PDA profile, I’m worried it’s going to do damage in the long run. Her little nervous system is already in fight and flight most of the time.
Has anyone had the same experience or any advice?.
I just want to get this right.
Many thanks…x
