Santa

First time parents. My son (diagnosed, with a PDA profile) will be about 5.5 this Christmas. He’s pretty smart - I think he’ll be the first out of him and his twin to figure out Santa, and maybe first in their school class.

How is he likely to take it? What are the implications of a lie maintained as long as he can remember? I’m sure it’s awkward for all parents, but I’m worried about a loss of trust!

Any advice?

  • I can't remember where I heard it, but it went along the lines of bringing the conversation to why we give presents. It's not about the fictional character giving presents to the "good" boys and girls. It's about making people feel loved and cared about. So long as that happens, it doesn't matter where the presents came from.
