Burnt out & Overwhelmed

Hi everyone,

I'm feeling very overwhelmed and burnt out at the moment. I've had a couple of very stressful things happen recently and I'm finally feeling like I can recover.

I was in a wedding as a bridesmaid recently abroad, and I found the whole thing completely and utterly overwhelming. Being on show all day long, being on top of timings and in general just being a supportive presence was very hard for me. On top of it being abroad and a bit remote, the logistics was very hard to manage, plus the friend I went with didn't do enough I felt with the general logistics of the whole weekend. It was just a lot.

On top of that, I work freelance and signed a new project, and it has been really stressful with it all kicking off in the past week or so. For the past year or so, I haven't had to deal with Slack or Teams channels, and I hate them because they require so much thinking of terms of social cues, and what people really mean. It's even harder to work them out when people aren't in front of you, and I'm always terribly worried that I'm saying or doing the wrong thing.

I feel horribly teary and upset today, and it's all just a bit too much. I agreed to go on a date tonight but I don't know if I should cancel. I really want to meet someone and feel like time is not on my side, but I would love to just lie and my bed and cry. I miss my family a lot at the moment and I feel horrendous.

Just want someone to talk to.

  • Hi, I am so sorry to hear this.

I understand that feeling of being overwhelmed, it feels like nothing can go in your brain despite giving it your all.

Please don't feel any pressure, guilt or sadness if you need to cancel, you have done a lot for others already. I'm sure your date would rather you be feeling good rather than feeling overwhelmed.

I hope you feel a bit better later,
